Our characters are (of course) a tribute to Slingin' Sammy Baugh and Bronko Nagurski. Both men were charter members elected to the first class of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963. Sadly Sammy Baugh, the last surviving member of that class, died on December 17, 2008 just 8 days after this strip was published.
